Tao Mountain is one of the five Daoist sacred mountains in China. Because of its history, it is the most climbed mountain in China. It is the pride of Shandong province and reaches up to an imposing elevation of 1545 m above sea level. Some 6 million tourists a year come to follow in the footsteps of Confucius and other great leaders and thinkers of China. The mountain can be found on the five Yuan banknote:
10 RMB Banknote: The Three Gorges
As one of the most famous sites of China, a picture of the Three Gorges is printed on the 10 Yuan bill. It is also famous because of its controversial Three Gorges Dam, which was finished in 2007 and dams the Yangtze River over 600 km between Yichang in the east and Chongqing in the west. 20 RMB Banknote: Guilin
Also the scenery of Guilin is very famous - it was and still is often painted. No wonder that it finds itself again on our currency, precisely on the 20 Yuan banknote. The seemingly surreal southern Chinese karst landscape evolved from erosion and formed millions of karst hills and peaks of which also the Stone Forest, close to Kunming is part of.
50 RMB Banknote: Potala Palace, Lhasa
The image on the 50 RMB bill is the Potala Palace, which is located in the Tibetan capital of Lhasa. This giant building has 13 floors and a total of over 1000 rooms and is built at an elevation of 3700 m. Situated at the roof of the world, the Potala Palace was the chief residence of the Dalai Lama until the late 60's, when the 14. Dalai Lama fled to India. 100 RMB Banknote: The Great Hall of the People, Beijing
Beijing is the capital of China and the Tiananmen Square is considered the center of Beijing, the Heart of China and the Center of State Power. The main building on Tiananmen Square is the Great Hall of the People, where the most important decisions of the Chinese government are made. The biggest denomination of Chinese paper money is the 100 Yuan banknote, thus, the image of this important building has been printed on it.
