From February 1th 2018 to April 30th, 2018, all the A grade scenic areas are free for all travelers! Yes, it doesn’t matter if they are 1A, 2A, 3A, 4A or 5A, everything is free, including the Potala Palace, Jokhang Temple, Namtso Lake, Everest and many more…

In addition to the free tickets for tourist attractions, these policies also include: Half prices for hotels of more than 3 stars! Half price for travel vehicles! And flights and charters can enjoy special offers and discounts!

If you do a rough calculation, you will notice you are saving thousands of CNY travelling in Tibet in the winter!

    

Some people think that even if there is a discount, traveling to Tibet in the winter is looking for trouble and that cheap things are never good. But in fact, the constant sunny weather is one of the main assets of Tibet. Lhasa in the winter is drowsy with sunlight and not as cold as you might think.

There are few to no tourists and local Tibetan pilgrims convert to Lhasa from all directions. It is a fortunate time to go and really feel the city’s warmth and faith.

  • Jokhang Temple

Jokhang Temple is the earliest building in Lhasa, with over 1,350 years of history. The city of Lhasa was gradually built around it. Famous Lama Nima Tsering said "If you come to Lhasa and you don’t go to Jokhang Temple, it is the same as not going to Lhasa at all." Jokhang Temple is a sacred place for pilgrims in Tibet and has a very special place in their hearts. In their opinion, Jokhang Temple is the center of Lhasa and the center of Tibet.

  • Potala Palace

Tickets: ¥ 100 (free now)

Opening hours: 9: 00-15: 00

The Potala Palace was originally a residence of the Tibetan prince Zambu Sungkam for the purpose of marrying the Princess Wencheng, later it became the residence of the Dalai Lama. The Potala Palace tickets are called "the toughest tickets to buy in China" and you need to queue up to one day in advance to get them. But now all of this is free and during Chinese New Year, the places in the palace that are usually closed to public are open for visiting.

Note: It is recommended to rest in Lhasa 1 or 2 days before you visit the Potala Palace (due to the Potala Palace being the ancient Palace Fort complex with the world's highest elevation)

  • Everest base camp

Tickets: ¥ 180 (free now)

Opening hours: open all day

When you come to the Everest base camp, you will face the world's highest peak, you will find Everest base camp and Mount Everest are very different: the base camp is a place to stay, it’s a place to save lives, and Mount Everest is a place to challenge life and death.

In any case, the top of the world, so noble and holy, is elusive and can be seen from the base camp. This is why so many people who cannot get on Everest, still make a trip to base camp to see it.\

  

At night you can take photos of a sky full of stars of the Mount Everest's and the next morning, take in the Mount Everest's sunrise.

Namtso, meaning "Heavenly Lake" in Tibetan, is one of Tibet's three major holy lakes. When you stand on the edge of Namtso Lake, the highest and most beautiful lake in the world is stunning, as if you were in a blue world. Light blue, sky blue, gray blue, sapphire blue, dark blue, and blue like black ink, this lake view seems to contain all the hues of blue in the world.

  • Meidihe Glacier

Tickets: ¥ 50 (free now)

Opening hours: open all day

Meidihe Glacier is located in the village of Jopu, Jupu Town, about 100km east of Bomi County, Nyingchi Prefecture, Tibet. It is the most important marine glacier in Tibet and the lowest glacier in the world. It has been named one of China's six most beautiful glaciers by China National Geographic. It’s fantastic and pure beauty attracts people in the winter, though must pay attention to safety.

  • Altitude sickness

Take care not to catch a cold in Tibet as the high altitude easily leads it into a pulmonary edema.

The symptoms of altitude sickness are headache, heart palpitations, shortness of breath, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Of course, some people don’t feel anything, it depends of the person. So according to each different constitution, high altitude symptoms may vary.

So, if you only feel those symptoms a little bit, taking oxygen is not recommended as it makes people dependent.

  • Medicine

Start taking Rhodiola at least a week before your departure, reduce strenuous exercise and preserve your strength to prevent altitude sickness.

Gaoyuanan medicine can effectively alleviate altitude sickness

Coca-Cola can also relieve some of the symptoms.

Glucose, if you take it before you feel the symptoms, can play a preventive role.

  • Clothes

There are large temperature differences between night and day in Lhasa. It is said that one day is like four seasons. The average winter temperature is 10 degrees Celsius. During the day wearing 2-3layers of clothes is enough, at night you should add a coat.

  • Other

Sunglasses are a must, as well as scarf, hat, sunscreen, lip balm, umbrella, water bottle, and mobile power bank.
