If you've ever happened to be in China during summer, you surely know that heat waves and sudden floods are not uncommon throughout the whole country. This year, in particular, is said to be the hottest in over a hundred years and records are being broken in many provinces.
In the last few weeks, several areas in central and eastern China have been experiencing the "dog days" of summer, with temperatures reaching 40℃ and more. The scorching heat is baking not only the notoriously known "furnace cities" Chongqing, Changsha, Wuhan, Xi'an and Urumqi, but also Beijing and coastal cities like Shangai, Fuzhou and Hangzhou, causing health risks and droughts.

Ever heard the saying "It's so hot that you can fry an egg under the sun"? Well, someone actually tried it and this is the result: it solidified within short!
Pictures of Chinese people coping with extreme hot weather in the oddest and funniest ways, are going viral online, as well as images of overcrowded swimming pools and water parks where people try to find some relief from the heat. Whether it helps?
If you would like to escape the heat wave, just come to Yunnan! The summer months here are usually pleasantly cool but can also get quite rainy.
What's the reason of Yunnan's peculiarity?
Due to the province's location on south-facing mountain slopes, receiving the influence of both the Pacific and Indian oceans, Yunnan generally enjoys a mild climate, with summer temperatures ranging from 21℃ to 27℃.
Because of this special weather, it's not unusual to see people on the streets dressed in winter and summer clothes at the same time, and this can be quite amusing for outsiders!
So, when's the best time to visit Yunnan?
Yunnan is a very diverse province with the Himalayas in the north and subtropics in the south, so it's not easy to summarize its climate. According to an old saying, you can enjoy all four seasons on the same mountain, where each of these seasons is only a few miles distant from the others!
Let's say the best time to visit depends on the area you'd like to visit. Winter, for example, is the best time to go to Yuanyang's Rice Terraces as well as Xishuangbanna, whereas the north region of Shangri-La can be extremely cold and inhospitable. From autumn to early summer the weather is usually extremely dry, with a strong sun and very few rainfall. The rainy season usually lasts from June to September, but it's still a pleasant time to see the flora and fauna. Also, the difference between daytime and nightitme temperatures is not very wide. So, actually, the best time to visit Yunnan is whenever you're free!
If you're planning to visit China in the summer, Yunnan is your best choice!
