End of October, we could already welcome the first Siberian seagulls to Kunming. In the meanwhile, it seems that the've all arrived as the lakes and channels in and around Kunming are densely populated with migratory birds. We recommend the following four places to visit to watch these birds each year between late October and early March.

 

Green Lake Park (Cui Hu) 翠湖公园(翠湖)

Address: Green Lake Park, Cuihu South Road 翠湖南路

In the centre of the city, very close to Yunnan University, Yunnan Military Academy and other historical sites.

No admission fee

 

Daguan Park (Grand View Park) 大观楼

Address: Daguan Park, No. 284 Daguan Road 大观路284号

On the eastern shores of Dianchi Lake, about 2 km from downtown.

Admission fee: 26 RMB per person

 

Haigeng Park 海埂公园

Address: Haigeng Park, No. 1318 Dianchi Road 滇池路1318号

About 8 km from downtown, close to the Yunnan Ethnic Villages Park and Yunnan Nationalities Museum.

Admission fee: 10 RMB per person

 

Haigeng Dam & Dianchi Lake 海埂大坝 & 滇池

Address: Haigeng Dam, Guanjing Road 观景路

On the eastern shore of the Dianchi Lake, 8 km from downtown.

No admission fee
