Lugu Lake is a very beautiful place, roughly 200 km northeast of Lijiang by road. But it's exactly this road which still makes it very difficult to reach the remote area. Especially during rainy summer seasons like now, with a high risk of land- and mudslides as well as falling rocks and floods. In order to playing it safe, the local government has decided to close the specifically dangerous part along the Jinsha River for any kind of transportation between 14th July and 31st October 2016.
So now, there's the option of either making a detour from Lijiang via Yongsheng and then further north to the Lake or directly taking the plane from Kunming.
