Bad news for travellers and hikers around the Lijiang area! The Tiger Leaping Gorge has been temporarily closed to the public because of the continuous heavy rain of the last couple of weeks resulting in dangerous landslides and roadblocks. It will reopen again once the danger alert and the rainy weahter is over, presumably in early August only.

Our pictures above are showing the road connecting the village of Qiaotou with the upper section of Tiger Leaping Gorge, which is currently blocked by rocks and debris. As a result, the main entrance to the scenic area is now inaccessible. Below is our map with a mark at the place where it happened.

The rainy season in Yunnan usually lasts from June to September, with over half of the annual rainfall occurring between June and August. During this time of the year, landslides and landfalls are not uncommon in the mountainous north-west part of the province. But this year, in particular, this area of Yunnan has been experiencing extraordinarily heavy rains causing floods and landslides, throughout the whole region.

We will keep an eye on the current situation and will keep you posted with the latest news right here in our blog. If you are planning a trip to the Tiger Leaping Gorge, please don’t hesitate contacting us for first-hand information and reliable travel support.
