Major Bus Terminals in Kunming

Kunming is Yunnan's major infrastructure hub. Besides Yunnan's biggest airport and train station, Kunming is also home to several long distance bus terminals from where day and night coaches reach about every corner of the province. There are 4 main coach stations in Kunming: The Eastern, Western, Southern and Northern Bus Terminal.

Eastern Bus Terminal

The Eastern Bus Terminal was built to service buses to and from the east and southeast of Yunnan Province along the Kunming-Shilin Expressway.

Location: Cross at Hongqiao flyover and Liangmian Temple 3rd Ring of East; Panlong District, reachable by subway line 6.

Passengers can take buses to the following places:

  1. Wenshan Prefecture: Wenshan City, Puzhehei
  2. Honghe Prefecture: Gejiu County, Kaiyuan County, Mengzi County, Mile County, Luxi County, Hekou County, Pingbian County, Jinping County
  3. Qujing Prefecture: Luliang County, Shizong County, Luoping County
  4. Kunming Prefecture: Shilin County, Yiliang County
  5. Further long-distance buses to the other provinces as Guangxi and Guizhou.

 

Western Bus Terminal

Kunming's Western Bus Terminal was first built in 2008 and was originally known as the Xi Shan Bus Station (according to Kunming's western borrough and close attraction Western Hills). Today, it operates 954 long-distance buses on 44 different lines.

Location: Majie Kunzhou Road, Xishan District

Passengers reach following destinations leaving from here:

  1. Dali Prefecture
  2. Baoshan Prefecture
  3. Dehong Prefecture
  4. Lincang Prefecture
  5. Nujiang Prefecture
  6. Deqin Prefecture
  7. Lijiang Prefecture  (Yulong, Yongsheng and Nilang County)
  8. Jingdong County
  9. Shangyun Town

Southern Bus Terminal

The relatively new Southern Bus Terminal was built in 2009, it operates bus lines running on the Kunming-Yuxi Expressway. This expressway belongs to the National Highway No.213 and is the start point of the planned Kunming-Bangkok International Highway.

Location: cross of Guangfu Road and Middle Dongcheng Avenue, Guandu District, reachable by subway line 1.


Now, there are scheduled buses to and from 

  1. Puer
  2. Xishuangbanna,
  3. Yuxi, 
  4. Honghe Prefecture (Jianshui, Shiping, Yuanyang, Lvchun, Honghe) and
  5. Luang Prabang in Laos.

Northern Bus Terminal

The Northern Bus Terminal operates long and short distance buses going to the northeast of Yunnan Province along the Kunming-Qujing Highway and National Highway No.213.

Location: Longtou Street, Panlong District, reachable by subway line 2.

There are buses to

  1. Qujing
  2. Zhaotong
  3. Xundian
  4. Songming
  5. Luquan and
  6. Dongchuan.

 

 

Additional to four big bus terminals above, one further bus terminal, is of relative importance: 

The Northwest Bus Terminal

From this Bus Terminal, passengers can take buses departing to -  unsurprisingly - the area northwest of Kunming.

Location: High-tech Industrial Development Zone

There are buses running along National Highway No.108 to Dingwu, Yuanmou, Yongren, Huaping, Fumin, Luquan but as well as buses to Anning, Yimen and Chuxiong along National Highway No.320.
