3 Days Hiking & Beautiful Scenery Tour

Day 01: Kunming – Jiaozi Snow Mountain

Your tour guide and driver will pick you up from Kunming in the morning. First you'll be invited to a Yunnan Pu’er Tea Ceremony, which is one of the most famous teas in China. Additionally, learn about the interesting tea culture of China and the history of the "Tea Horse Road". You can also take some Pu’er tea with you as gifts for your family and friends as it’s a symbol of Yunnan culture.

Later on we will drive to Jiaozi Snow Mountain (about 3 hours).  The mountain's peak is 4223 m high: it is the highest peak of Kunming Prefecture. There is a base camp at about 3550 meters that is used as a starting point for trekkers. You will get to Sifangjing first (elevation: 3147 m), and take the scenic area’s shuttle bus to Xiapingzi (elevation: 3533 m). Enjoy hiking passing wonderful spots, such as the Lotus Waterfall, Moon Rock Peak and Rhododendron forest. Or choose the cable car to take you higher up the mountain directly to 3800 m.

Travel Suggestions: As the mountain is high and the mornings and nights are cold, you should take enough warm clothes with you. Furthermore, climbing mountains consumes a lot of physical energy so you definitely should bring appropriate food with enough calories. Please always be careful and listen to your guide's advices when you climb the mountain. If encountering weather changes you should always make sure that you will be able to return to the base camp.

Day 02: Jiaozi Snow Mountain –Dongchuan Red Land

After breakfast in the morning you can continue hiking araound a bit more and immerse yourself in its wonderful landscapes. In the afternoon we drive to Dongchuan district (about 2 hours) to be in time for some splendid sunset views at Dongchuan Red Land over local villages and farmland.

Luoxiagou (Luoxia Valley) is part of the Dongchuan Red Land Area and is considered to have one of the most magnificent views of red soil in the world (same as the red land in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil). It is the biggest Red Land Area comprising typical features of the Yunnan Highland Plateau. With gorgeous and colorful hues, Dongchuan Red Land is praised as a color palette on earth and is more and more visited by hikers and photographers due to its mix of striking landscapes and laid-back villages. The sunset atmosphere in the evening turns the splendid views to an even more remarkable event, offering almost endless opportunities to photography enthusiasts. Afterwards we enjoy a typical local dinner and stay overnight in Dongchuan.

Day 03: Dongchuan Red Land – Kunming

You will get up early to be present when the sun is rising over Dongchuan Red Soil Land in the morning. Viewed from distance, the hills and fields appear in all kinds of red colors. The flowers blossom on hills and slopes and produce multicolored scenery together with golden wheat fields waving in the breeze. We watch local peasants doing their farm work. After lunch we will drive you back to your hotel in Kunming.

Possible Extension Tour:

1. Xiaoshuijing (Small Well) is located in the southeastern quarter of Fumin Town and the way to Jiaozi Snow Mountain and Dongchuan Red Land, 40 kilometers away from Kunming (1 hours’ drive), and can be accessed by a village road. The village is at an elevation of 2380 m, where less than 500 people live, all of whom are of the Christian Miao minority. It is also the biggest Miao village in Kunming Prefecture. There is a comparatively big Church in the village with a choir that sings beautifully (starts as 12:00 on every Sunday). Miao villagers there have their ethnic group’s instruments; songs and dances are well established traditionally with simple and adorned social customs. The exact schedule of the events depends on the festival calendar of Miao minority and Christian feasts – please check with us!
