We have used a few different tour companies for various trips across Asia and Wonders of Yunnan is right up there with the very best. Our travel agent and point of contact, Joy, was fantastic. It was really easy to discuss our options and preferences and to share ideas. It was clear that the company wanted to make sure that we had the very best experience. Our guide on the first night was Rodney who was great at showing us the Old Town in Lijiang on our fist evening (beautiful) and the First Bend of the Yangtze the next morning. Rodney handed over to Tsering for the next five days. Tsering (and our driver) was just brilliant at giving us the best tour! Really knowledgeable, really helpful, lots of energy, we knew we were in very good hands. We headed north all the way from Lijiang to Deqin, stopping for a day and a half at Shangri La. An easy drive, very safe. (We did not have any real problems with the altitude, although we could definitely feel the difference). Thanks to Tsering those five days have given us the very best memories, and about 500 awesome photographs! On the return, we finished with an afternoon in Kunming before flying home to Singapore. Vivien was amazing in showing us round her city for a few hours. Lovely company, really fascinating discussions, like having a chat with an old friend, 100% perfect English, and she has made us already start thinking about visiting again and to do a tour heading south. We had already done quite a bit of research and had a few ideas of what we wanted to see on the whole tour, including seeing Kawagarbo and climbing to the Mingyong Glacier. Joy then helped us shape the ideas into a proper tour that was easily-manageable in the time we had. Equally you could simply tell Joy nothing other than when you want to visit and for how long and the tour company will do the rest! It is a beautiful area and the company is very proud in being able to show it to visitors. With the level of professionalism and obvious enjoyment in their work, it is easy to see why Wonders of Yunnan is so highly recommended. We look forward to using them again!

We (a Belgian family of 5) had a simply amazing 16-day trip through Sichuan and Yunnan with WOY in December 2016 - January 2017. Before the trip our WOY travel agent, Joy, was very patient and helpful in drafting a program according to our wishes. She did not only respond extremely quickly to all our e-mails, but was also very flexible in adapting the program to accommodate all our requests (alternative hotels, additional days here and there, extra visits, booking internal flights etc.). Once on the ground in China, our trip couldn’t have gone more smoothly. Guides and drivers were always at the ready, waiting for us at the arranged meeting points, helping to recover lost luggage, escorting us in airports and train stations etc. The guides were very professional. Their English was, in general, very good. They were very knowledgeable on local culture, customs and heritage. They took us to small, local eateries, serving delicious, authentic food. In short, we loved travelling with every single one of them. Program-wise our trip was fantastic. We believe we saw much of the best Yunnan has to offer. We started our journey in Sichuan, visiting Chengdu and the Panda research base before heading to Emeishan. We were very lucky to enjoy a splendid sunset on top of the mountain, the golden Buddha blinking in the sun above a magnificent cloud inversion. We continued the rest of our journey in Yunnan. There we could enjoy the mild climate around Kunming during a relaxing walk through the Shilin Stone Forest before embarking on the night train to Dali. For a week, we visited the ancient towns along the famous tea-horse road (Dali, Shaxi, Lijiang, Shangri-La), acquainted ourselves with Bai, Naxi and Tibetan culture and enjoyed splendid mountain scenery, from green valleys and steep gorges to Tibetan plateaus. We ended our trip in southern Yunnan, visiting the Yuanyang rice terraces. From the roof terrace of Jacky’s friendly guesthouse, we could keep staring at the ever-changing light reflected in the terraces, before going on a walk between the rice fields (good balance required ;-) ). From our wonderful experience, we can highly recommend Wonders of Yunnan if you are looking for a memorable, authentic and well-organised trip in Yunnan and/or Sichuan.

It is always difficult organising a trip in a completely unknown country, selecting a local provider and paying upfront. We chose Wonders of Yunnan based on reviews and they proved a very good choice. Organisation was excellent – everything happened as discussed and described, connections were made...

It is always difficult organising a trip in a completely unknown country, selecting a local provider and paying upfront. We chose Wonders of Yunnan based on reviews and they proved a very good choice. Organisation was excellent – everything happened as discussed and described, connections were made, guides were there to meet us etc. In the planning stages, office support from Joy was always very helpful, her advice on itinerary was good and she was also a contact point if there were any issues during the tour. We chose the ‘Classic Yunnan’8 day 'private' tour (for 2) but tailored some aspects, extending it to 9 days. Starting from Kunming (mid-April) and finishing in Shangri-La, we substituted a visit to the Dongchuan red soil terraces for time around Kunming city (very worthwhile as we caught the terraces after a little rain which brings out the colours), we included a visit to the Jade Snow Mountain with a performance of Impression Lijang (also worthwhile and a better show than the one we saw later in Yangshuo) and a one and a half day trek in the key section of Tiger Leaping Gorge (something you have to do if you are a trekker). From Shangri-La we flew to Lhasa and this Yunnan tour provided excellent acclimatisation for Tibet as altitude increases over the week from one major location to the next. The organisation of the tour was similar to other such tours in China, where you are met on arrival by a local guide, guided around that destination, then ushered back to airport or train station to catch your transport to the next destination where you are met by the next local guide. Hotels and included meals were very good, as were drivers and vehicles. We had four guides and found them all to be very nice people, very polite, helpful and attentive, making sure we had everything we needed. They were also well-organised and made sure we did everything without obviously pushing us. Most had good English and could provide good information and answer our questions well, although one was problematic beyond the basics. Like all China tour providers we encountered, payments could be made by bank transfer or Paypal, but only in US dollars. WOY required a one third deposit to make the booking but this is less than some other tour providers who require 50% with full payment before travel.
