Since the end of 2016, they can be seen all over town: rental bikes. 3 different bike companies spread their eye-catching, multi-colored bicycles in Kunming and already now they are well frequented. More and more city dwellers and tourists are making use of this new offer. Especially along Kunming's subway stations, the rental bikes come in handy. 

While the apps, which have to be downloaded to one's smartphone even partly are in Chinese and English (except Yong An Xing, only in Chinese), paying methods and registrations are connected to services as Alipay and Wechat, which people from outside of China only use rarely. Find below short instructions for the three different bike types:

 

Yong An Xing - 永安行 (Blue & Yellow Bikes)

Price: 1 RMB / hour 

Instructions:

  1. Download the 永安行 app over the phone's app store
  2. Verify your telephone number and scan the QR code of the respective bike you like to rent
  3. Register with your Chinese ID card and confirm
  4. Pay a refundable deposit of RMB 99 (using Alipay, Wechat or your Chinese banking card)
  5. Unlock the bike by entering a code which is being sent to you
  6. Lock the bike at any public place in town and the rental fee is automatically deducted from your respective account
  7. The deposit will be refunded once applied for

 

OFO Kunming - OFO昆明 (Yellow Bikes)

      Price: 1 RMB / hour

Instructions:

  1. Search for “ofo昆明” on wechat or download the app "ofo共享单车" over the phone's app store
  2. Register with your name & Chinese ID via the platform. If you don't have a Chinese ID card, registration can be made via the email address [email protected]
  3. Choose "点我骑车" / "Ride Now"
  4. Pay a refundable deposit of RMB 99 (using Alipay or Wechat)
  5. Enter the bike’s plate number in order to receive a code for unlocking the bike
  6. Unlock the bike by entering the code and off you go
  7. Lock the bike at any public place in town and the rental fee is automatically deducted from your respective account
  8. The deposit will be refunded once applied for

 

Mobike - 摩拜 (Red & Grey Bikes)

Price: 2 RMB / hour

Instructions:

  1. Download the 摩拜单车 app over the phone's app store
  2. Register with name and Chinese ID via the app. If you don't have a Chinese ID Card you can verify your account with a picture of your passport
  3. Pay a refundable deposit of RMB 299, using Alipay or Wechat
  4. Scan the QR code of the respective bike you like to rent in order to receive an unlocking code
  5. Unlock the bike by entering the code and off you go
  6. Lock the bike at any public place in town and the rental fee is automatically deducted from your respective account
  7. Full amount deposit can be refunded anytime you apply.
