Xishuangbanna
The Water-Splashing Festival (Poshuijie / 泼水节 in Chinese) is the New Year's or Spring Festival on the calendar of the Dai people, an ethnic group living in Yunnan's south and southwest. This year, the festival takes place from 13. to 15. April. Bring your water guns!

With an average elevation of around 2000 meters above sea level, Yunnan features huge differences in altitude: while Yunnan's north borders Tibet and the Eastern Himalayas (up to 6740 m), the subtropical landscapes of the south are not higher than 100 meters.

I had some days off last December and used the opportunity to visit Xishuangbanna in Yunnan's south. In a little village close to Menghun I could witness the processing of traditional papermaking. It's as easy as fascinating!
