May First means HOLIDAY for most of us. But for the Wa people of Cangyuan, it means it’s time for the Mud Rubbing Festivities to start. During this festival people smear each other with ash, ox blood and mud to bring each other good fortune and peace and frighten away evil.

For the seventh time, Kunming's "500KM City Music Festival" kicks off - this year end of June. A large variety of Chinese and international bands on three different stages will rock Yunnan's capital during two days! Join Kunming's largest music festival close to Dianchi Lake!
One of numerous Chinese holidays that is celebrated according to the Lunar Calendar: the 5th day of the 5th month falls on Tuesday, 30.May this year. The public holiday lasts three days from 28.May to 30.May. As many other businesses, our office stays closed during these three days.
Other than the majority of Chinese public holidays, the International Worker's Day or Labour Day (劳动节 – láo dòng jié) or more colloquially "May Day" (五一节 – wǔ yī jié) is not tied to the lunar calendar but is celebrated on Mai 1st like in many other countries all over the world.

The Tomb-Sweeping Day, or Qingming Jie (清明节) how it is called in Chinese, is a traditional Chinese festival beginning of April, on which ancestors are remembered. Usually families use this holiday visiting the grave yards of their ancestors, sweep the tombs and put down offerings.
The Water-Splashing Festival (Poshuijie / 泼水节 in Chinese) is the New Year's or Spring Festival on the calendar of the Dai people, an ethnic group living in Yunnan's south and southwest. This year, the festival takes place from 13. to 15. April. Bring your water guns!

The Huijie Festival of the A’chang people is solemnly celebrated as an important religious event in the A'chang settlements of Dehong, in Yunnan's west. Beginning on the 10. day of the 9. month (lunar calendar), the start of the festival this year falls on 10. October and lasts for five days.
