Many visitors come to Yunnan to combine their stay with a trek. While the majority has heard of or visited and hiked the Tiger Leaping Gorge, further interesting treks can be found further up in the north close to Tibet and Yunnan's highest peak: Meili Snow Mountain.

With an average elevation of around 2000 meters above sea level, Yunnan features huge differences in altitude: while Yunnan's north borders Tibet and the Eastern Himalayas (up to 6740 m), the subtropical landscapes of the south are not higher than 100 meters.

We recently reported about bird migration to Yunnan. Mainly birds from Sibiria come to Yunnan during the winter months. In most parts of Yunnan it is definitely warmer than in Sibiria but also here it is advisable to protect oneself agains the chill, especially in higher elevation.
