The Impression Lijiang Ethnic Show is a one hour show that is performed in an open air theatre at Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, just north of Lijiang. It was designed by the famous film director Zhang Yimou, and the main director as well as the staff composing this theatre piece is the same group that presents the Impression Sanjie Liu at Yangshuo. The show is performed against the backdrop of Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, at an altitude of over 3100 meters.
The Lantern Drama of Yunnan Province, or Yunnan Opera is one of numerous Chinese Opera types. With instruments like silk strings from the early Qing dynasty and violins typically used in Anhui Operas, the Yunnan Opera has gradually developed in Yunnan from the late Ming dynasty onwards (1386-1644). It is popular throughout numerous counties of Yunnan, as well as in parts of Sichuan and Guizhou.
"The Sound of Yunnan" is Lijiang's sister event of Kunming's "Dynamic Yunnan Show". It also was created by famous dance artist Yang Liping and was first performaed in Kunming in May 2009. The show is inspired by Yunnan's old and aboriginal instruments like giant drums, bamboo flutes and early bronze instruments, which were usedaround Yunnan already more than 2500 years ago. "The Sound of Yunnan" also demonstrates the sound of Yunnan's nature. Since May 2016, this dance musical is shown at Lijiang's Yunling Art Theater.
