The large majority of visitors and travellers to China need a valid passport with a Chinese visa. Currently there are 16 different visa types available (for example tourist visa, student visa, business visa etc.). Regulations, costs and duration of arrangements vary from country to country and also depend on the visitor's nationality and the purpose of visit.
Many foreign travellers require an official invitation letter or other supporting documents like booking confirmations or itineraries when applying for the visa.
