If China's economic boost of the last decades can be measured at one fact, then it's traffic! Cars and planes are transportation means number one. Highways, airports but also new railways are built to meet the still raising demand of a well-established infrastructure. Also, China's high speed railway network is about to expand also in more remote areas of the country.
While public transportation is getting better and more convenient it also might be of interest renting a private car with driver for a tour, especially for more rural areas.
