Yunnan's Top Tourist Places
Dali is one of the 24 historical and cultural cities in China, nominated by the State Council on February 8, 1982. Its history dates back to the Nanzhao Kingdom in the 8th century. The walled ancient town, with more than 500 years of history (it can be dated back to the year 1382 of the Ming Dynasty, 1368-1644) was the political, economic and cultural center of Dali. Today, it's the core visiting area.
If there is one word that best captures Dongchuan Red Land, it must be palette. It is such an amazing spectacle that you can never imagine if you have never been there. It is like God knocked over his palette, dropping heavenly paint, which makes Dongchuan such a stunning masterpiece. Red, green, white and yellow are matched into rolling rainbow ribbons stretching to sky.
Jade Dragon Snow Mountain is a mountain massif (or small mountain range) near Lijiang in Yunnan's north. Its highest peak is named Shanzidou (5,596 m). The view of the massif from the gardens at the Black Dragon Pool (Heilong Tan) in Lijiang is noted as one of China's finest views. The far side of the mountain forms one side of Tiger Leaping Gorge (Hutiao Xia).
Jianshui is a city in Honghe prefecture, Yunnan Province. It was an historic center of the province and remains an important transportation crossroad.
Kunming is the capital and largest city of Yunnan Province in Southwestern China. As a prefecture-level city, it is the political, economical and cultural centre of Yunnan. Furthermore, it is the seat of the provincial government. It is also home to several universities, museums, galleries and other important economic, cultural, and educational institutions. The headquarters of many of Yunnan's large businesses are in Kunming as well. The city was important during World War II as a Chinese military center, American air base, and transport terminus for the Burma Road.
The Old Town of Lijiang is a UNESCO World Heritage Site located in Lijiang City. The town has a history going back more than 800 years and was once a confluence for trade along the old tea horse road.
Lugu Lake is located in the North West Yunnan plateau in the centre of Ningliang Yi Autonomous County. The middle of the lake forms the border between the Ninglang County of Yunnan Province and the Yanqing County of Sichuan Province. The formation of the lake is thought to have occurred in a geological fault belonging to the geological age of the Late Cenozoic. It is an alpine lake at an elevation of 2685 metres and is the highest lake in the Yunnan Province. The lake is surrounded by mountains and has five islands, four peninsulas, fourteen bays and seventeen beaches.
Just like the rice terraces of Yuanyang in southern Yunnan, Luoping's canola fields have become a Mecca for photographers, although the season is much shorter here and therefore becomes much more crowded. The best time to visit is during the months of February and March.
Meili Xue Shan (translation: beautiful snow mountain) is a mountain range in the very north of Yunnan Province, in the Deqin Prefecture.
Nujiang Lisu Autonomous Prefecture is an autonomous prefecture of Yunnan Province, southwestern China.
