This is the second part of Iva's travel diary, recording her trip by foot from Chongqing through Yunnan and on to the Burmese border, which is still ongoing. She is following the route written down in Edwin Dingle's book 'Across China on Foot'. Today: first half of June, getting into Yunnan.

While Kunming is waiting for its proper subway network, the public buses around town are a useful alternative. For either one or two RMB per single bus ride, you will be able getting all over town, including most of Kunming's major attractions. Hop on!

The Hualian jie, how it is called in Chinese, takes place every year in Wenshan Miao and Yi Autonomous Prefecture, some 300 km south east of Kunming. It is an over 1000 year old tradition of the local Yi minority and a good option to get a face lift!
